It’s National Road Safety Week during the 20th-26th November and a timely reminder to make those all important checks to vehicles and Land Rover parts before setting off on your journey. Keeping your Land Rover or Range Rover in top condition with regular checks and maintenance makes sense for the running costs and longevity of your vehicle. More importantly it means that your 4×4 is safe and compliant with motoring laws.
Across social media the topic of driver and pedestrian safety has been highlighted with the hashtag #RoadSafetyWeek . Encouraged by the charity Brake, we are all being reminded about the importance of driving safely, like keeping our speed down and not exceeding the speed limit. With good reason too as 20% of trauma admissions to Accident and Emergency departments in the UK come from collisions. According to NHS Digital on Twitter they state that road traffic accidents were the cause of 234,715 attendances at A&E in England in 2016-17. Makes you think doesn’t it?

Key Land Rover Parts to Check Before Your Journey

The Department for Transport’s THINK! campaign is highlighting essential vehicle checks to ensure your transport is safe before you drive away. Based on this, here are the Land Rover parts you should check:
Tyres
Are your Land Rover tyres legal? If you are stopped by the police and found with illegal tyres, you could receive a £2,500 fine and 3 penalty points per tyre. Check the tread depth, pressure, and any areas for wear, including the spare. Tyres need a tread depth of 1.6mm for legal road use.
Lights
Check all lights, front and rear and indicators. Apart from helping you to see, they are vital Land Rover parts for informing other road users of your intended manoeuvre.
Fuel
Always keep your fuel tank at least a quarter full. Avoid long term damage to the engine, fuel tank, fuel pump, and fuel filter. You can be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice in some locations if your breakdown was foreseeable, such as running out of fuel. Stopping on a busy road or motorway puts yourself and others at risk.
Oil and Water Levels
Ensuring correct oil levels will keep the moving parts of your engine lubricated, clean, and helps to regulate the temperature, preventing seizing and break downs. Keep your washer bottle topped up with screen wash to spray the windscreen and remove any dirt or debris which may impede visibility.
