John Craddock Ltd Magazine (October 2021)

It’s that time of year again, when the days are starting to get shorter, the nights are starting to get colder, and opportunities for off roading are starting to look few and far between. For most people, this time of year signals a lull in terms of automotive use. But with a little preparation that doesn’t have to be the case. With a wee bit of thought, you’ll be having loads of fun off road in your Range Rover in no time at all.
Getting Your Range Rover Ready For The Fall
Let’s start with the preparation, shall we?
Check Your Range Rover’s Health
If you want to go off-roading during the fall season, the first thing you should do is to check the overall health of your Range Rover — regardless of whether it’s a Range Rover Classic or a Range Rover Evoque. You’ll want to spend particular attention on your headlights and tires.
Headlights
It’s getting dark earlier, and when the sun does rise it’s not particularly impressive — especially when you’re driving in the dusk or twilight. Because of that, you’ll want to make sure that your headlights are operating optimally.
As part of this process, you’ll want to make sure that your headlights are calibrated properly. In order to check if your headlights are calibrated correctly, you should park your Range Rover up and shine the headlights on a garage door or wall about 25 feet ahead. If your lights are properly calibrated, the top of your lights should be at the exact same height as the top of your bulb — with your right light being slightly higher than the left one.
While it is possible to correct misaligned lights yourself, if you haven’t done much repair work yourself, or are taking your Range Rover in for a maintenance check up anyway, it’s best to get your mechanic or engineer to do it for you if you don’t have much experience.
Alternatively, you may feel that your current lighting system isn’t up to scratch. At John Craddock, we carry a wide range of lighting parts and accessories for a wide variety of Land Rovers, ideal for upgrading your Land Rover’s lighting rig, including a full selection of LAZER accessories. For specific models, we carry a range of Range Rover Accessories for lighting, including a number of light bars, light guards and light upgrades.
Tires
Next, you should be monitoring your tires. During this time of year, as dew starts to settle on the ground and stay there throughout the day and as the leaves start to fall, it’s very common for your vehicle to lose traction.
When you’re driving, you’ll want to pay particular notice to leaves that have fallen on the ground. Wet leaves, left on the ground, make it harder to brake if you’re driving too quickly — even causing skidding. Maintain your speed and steer well clear of wheels if you can (while of course avoiding speeding and keeping a safe distance from other vehicles).
As part of this, you’ll also want to make sure you have adequate replacements. To keep your Range Rover’s replacement wheel safe, order one of our wheel covers for the Range Rover today. Doing this will help protect your Range Rover from the elements, which can gradually deteriorate the tire material over time — especially during this time of year.
Make Sure You Have The Necessary Range Rover Accessories
But making sure that your Range Rover is working properly isn’t the only thing you should do. Going off-roading this time of year also requires a small number of Range Rover accessories that you’ll want to pack.
For example, if you find that your wheels are starting to lose their grip, you’ll want to pack chains — especially later in the fall when hard, icy ground becomes a real problem. Chains are also a great accessory to pack for the winter, as they are equally useful in snow and on icy roads as they are on muddy and frozen ground. Having chains on your wheels could mean the difference between serious accident and mild inconvenience.
The next accessory that you should pack is a good old fashioned ice scraper. Having an ice scraper later on in the fall is a must. John Craddock carries a range of ice scrapers: from the starter Britpart ice Scraper to the Snow Brush, a 3-in-1 device designed as a full cold weather cleaning system.
