The new Range Rover Evoque has made quite the first impression with 500 pre-orders already placed for the vehicle. The Evoque Convertible features a sleeker, more compact design along with a soft top roof and has been labelled as “the first ever luxury SUV cabriolet” by Land Rover. The vehicle is a far cry from the original series, but reaction to the latest model has been largely popular, particularly amongst women. James Bond star Naomie Harris was on hand as the vehicle was unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show, adding that the vehicle was a “glamorous” addition to the current crop of Land Rovers.

Bold New Direction For Land Rovers?

Over 40% of the pre-orders were made by female customers, marking a significant shift for the firm away from the more traditional, rugged image of the Land Rover. The new Evoque will be available for around £47,500 for a diesel or £52,000 for the lux petrol model. It will also be manufactured in the UK at Jaguar Land Rover’s Halewood factory in Liverpool which currently employs close to 5000 people.

This latest vehicle also seems to fit in nicely with the firm’s plans to tap into the sports utility vehicle market which is set to grow by 20% over the next five years. This is also the very first Range Rover convertible to be made and over half a million have sold so far since arriving on the scene in 2011, making it the best selling model for Land Rover. Customers in the UK will be able to place regular orders around spring 2016.
