John Craddock Ltd Magazine (November 2022)

Winter can be a harsh and unfriendly time for all vehicles. With heavy rainfall and cold temperatures, your Land Rover will be in need of some TLC (tender loving care) during the winter months. To prevent any future problems, some time and effort is required to keep up the top performance of your beloved Land Rover.

In this article by John Craddock, your leading Land Rover parts specialist, we’ll take you through the best ways to look after and maintain your Land Rover this winter. No matter how old your vehicle is or the model, there are certain techniques you can enact this winter. Continue reading to learn more.

Cleaning

The number one best way to maintain your vehicle all year round is to keep it clean. Some people prefer a quick declutter once a week or a deep clean every few months. If you have a vacuum in your home, it can be very useful for the interior of your car. You can use the vacuum  to collect debris and dirt from the original carpet and floor mats. To take the extra step, you can polish the fabric or leather upholstery with a specialised car cleaner and a soft cloth. At John Craddock, we supply the official Land Rover Luxury Leather Cleaner and Leather and Vinyl Cleaning Kit.

It may be surprising to some, but rain water won’t clean your car effectively on its own. Trust us, we wish it could. However, in order to properly wash the exterior, you will need a pressure washer and specialised car shampoo. This will leave your car super clean and shiny, even after a day exploring the Scottish Highlands. To clean your undercarriage, you will need a suitable degreaser. We advise rinsing the exterior first to remove the heavy build-up of mud. It’s also a good idea to not power wash your car in direct sunlight. This can cause the cleaning products to dry up quickly. Instead, choose to power wash on a cloudy day or in the shade. Finally, allowing it to air dry and going over with a clean soft cloth to shine.

Let’s not forget the alloy wheels. You might find your alloy wheels looking filthy overtime. Mud and dirt on the roads can lodge and discolour them when you’re out and about. If you’re cleaning our 4×4 alloy wheels, we recommend a good power wash and clean with an alloy wheel cleaner as this is a stronger solution to remove stubborn marks than car shampoo.

Maintenance Checks

As well as regular cleaning, it’s important to check your tire pressure every now and again. It is also advised to check them before embarking on a long journey. Like any other car, it’s also important to check your fluids. We regularly top up with fuel, but we also top up the levels of engine oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, coolant, power steering fluid and any other fluids in your Land Rover model.

Professional Clean and Service

To save time, get your Land Rover professionally cleaned, it’s a luxury treat getting an interior, exterior valet or even both. If in doubt, visit your dealer to keep your Land Rover serviced and have your fluids checked properly. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
