Got a pristine set of 4×4 alloys from our huge range? Maybe you’ve got some Kahn Piano Black Diamond or Boss Off Road Gun Polish on your 4×4? To keep them looking their best and to avoid damage to their finish it’s essential to keep your 4×4 alloys clean and well cared for. One of the biggest problems for any wheels is brake dust. This mixture of carbon fibres, metal filings and adhesive residues can be a corrosive combination, and so needs to be removed often. If your 4×4 alloys get a lot of off road action this means that they’re bound to get dirtier much quicker than standard road wheels. To make their care stress free we’ve prepared a quick guide to ensure you clean them properly.
How to clean 4×4 alloys:
The first step in cleaning your 4×4 alloys is to remove any loose dirt or contaminants. This is usually done with a hose pipe, and flushes off any remnants of the road. It’s essential that the water reaches all areas of the 4×4 alloys to remove any surface dust or dirt. Try to rinse as thoroughly as possible, as the less contact with brushes etc on your alloys, the better.
You’ll then need a wheel or alloy cleaner solution (you can buy ones specifically suited to your alloy finish). Soak your wash mitt or cloth in the wash and gently scrub. To clean inside the spokes of your 4×4 alloys use a tyre brush (but make sure it’s soft enough not to damage them). Rinse the 4×4 alloys again and dry with a cloth to prevent watermarks and to give you a sparkling shine. To give you 4×4 alloys an even better finish, you can then apply wax or polish dependant on the type of you’ve chosen.
