In 1994, the Rover Company launched the Range Rover P38a as the follow up to the original Range Rover. In contrast to the model that would be called the Range Rover Classic, the new P38 included an upgraded V8 petrol (or BMW diesel) engine, allowing the driver to go much farther and faster, as well as a set of upgraded trims. These upgrades placed the new P38 above the Land Rover Discovery in terms of luxury — a first for the venerable company. 

However, despite this newfound luxury, the Range Rover P38 line still remained the first-choice for off roading enthusiasts and adventurers. Indeed, the new level of luxury only seemed to attract a new kind of enthusiast to the models — families.

Finally, the Range Rover could compete in the SUV market against companies like Honda, Isuzu and Acura. 

Today, the Range Rover P38 is looked upon fondly for its reliability — its ability to keep going, mile after mile, shrugging off difficult terrain that would stop lesser vehicles dead in their tracks. With that said, the 2nd generation Range Rover is not perfect — but then again, very few things are.

There are numerous upgrades you can do in order to improve both the driveability and comfort of the P38 — some big, some large. Generally speaking, you have three options when it comes to upgrading your lighting system: add to your existing system, upgrade your existing system, take your lights to the next level, and protect the environment. Scroll below to see some examples of ways you can do each.

Add to Your Existing System — Magnetic Lights

One of the easiest ways of improving your overall lighting is by simply attaching more lights to your P38 — with the easiest way of doing this being through the use of magnetic lights. Using magnetic lights allows you to add to your existing lighting system without modifying the car’s bodywork in any way. 

This is very useful for the classic car enthusiast who wants to keep their Range Rover P38’s aesthetics as close to original most of the time, but needs to upgrade their lighting system during the dark winter months.

It is then connected to your car’s lighting system and battery through a series of wires, which can be run through your car’s paneling. Once it has been attached to your car’s electrical systems, it will run as though it were any other light. The next way that you can improve visibility this time of year is by taking your lights to the next level. No doubt, the best way to do this is by investing in a series of high intensity lights — such as ARB’s Intensity 7 Inch Spot Lamp Version 2 and ARB intensity LED flood lights. 

These lights have been designed to make off road adventuring as clear as day. However, although they are primarily designed  for off-roading, they are equally as useful on the road — especially when driving at night on countryside roads, where visibility is potentially close to zero. 

Protect The Environment – Filters

The final way that you could improve the lighting set-up of your Range Rover P38 is by taking steps to being more ecologically friendly. One of the simplest ways to do this is by installing a blue light filter over your lights, such as the Lightforce Crystal Blue Wide Filter Lens. 

These accessories filter out the blue part of the light section — which can cause blurry vision, eyestrain, and even macular degeneration in mammals, including humans. This part of the light spectrum also interferes with the natural sleep cycle and causes pupils to constrict. This final part is particularly harmful to animals and other motorists, as it leaves them staggered and unable to see in the dark until their eyes re-acclimate to the darkness. 

Meanwhile, blue filters stop blue light from leaving the car’s lights. Allowing only the red half to shine out onto the road. This negates the negative effects of blue light, allowing the driver to see whilst not interfering with animals or other driver’s ability to see.
