Range Rover Sport L494
Range Rover Sport L494 (2013 – Present)
The Range Rover Sport L494 is the second generation of the series. It was unveiled at the New York Auto Show in March 2013 to great fanfare with A-list actors such as Daniel Craig attending the launch party in Manhattan.
Design & Styling
The design of the Range Rover Sport L494 is very much in the same vein of that of the Range Rover Evoque and the 2013 Range Rover. Just like the Range Rover L405, the second-generation Range Rover Sport chassis is constructed with an all-aluminium monocoque body. This difference in body construction made the new Range Rover Sport much lighter and more efficient without compromising on off-road performance.
This new creation also featured a supercharged V6 engine and optional “5+2” seating, similar to that of the Discovery. The wading depth of the vehicle had also been improved to 33.5” (6 more than its predecessor) and the air suspension had received an upgrade allowing a higher rise than the previous model.
The Terrain Response system was also upgraded. Now, rather than the driver needed to consciously switch modes, the cars computer would automatically detect and switch to the right one while driving. Finally, an auto park feature, and improved blind-sport system were added for a better driving experience.
Evolution of the Range Rover Sport L494
The Range Rover Sport received several face-lifts and upgrades throughout its production run.
This started in 2014, when the Range Rover SVR was unveiled on 11th August of the same year at Pebble Beach. This upgraded design sported a whole new front bumper finished in black and a rear bumper with more pronounced diffuser and twin-circle exhaust tips.
Performance wise, the SVR received a 5.0L supercharged V8 engine with upgraded transmission. The chassis was also revised, and an Active exhaust system incorporated to improve performance.
Three years later in 2017, at the LA Auto Show, an upgraded Range Rover Sport SVR was announced. This new model featured upgrades to its body style including silver quad exhausts and an optional carbon fibre hood.
