Delivery to Portugal
Our team at John Craddock Ltd are experienced in shipping overseas, with 10,000’s of orders being sent to addresses outside of the UK each year. A popular destination for a lot of our consignments is Portugal and for that reason, we’ve put together a guide of FAQs to help you understand why you can trust us with your international delivery.
In order to offer a range of flexible shipping options to our customers in Portugal, we rely on our strong network of trusted couriers and economy shipping. To get your parcel on its way, we work out the delivery rate based on the size and weight of the consignment and the shipping method that you have selected.
Our team works hard to ensure that we provide you with the very best service. For example, we ensure that each of our UK-based orders get processed and dispatched within 24 hours of being confirmed. For international orders, we also take extra care to keep items secure and compliant with the international shipping regulations. All of this is done to ensure that you get the most swift and stress-fee delivery service.
Duties and Taxes
Who Pays The Duties and Taxes On My Parcel?
Upon arrival of your consignment, our customers are responsible for paying the duties and taxes associated with their order. These charges will either be applied at the checkout, or through the shipping agent/customs once they arrive in Portugal. If it is that they require you to pay any VAT or duties, you will be contacted by the customs teams in Portugal.
What is the VAT rate for Portugal?
Currently, the Portuguese VAT for imports is 23%. However, this may be subject to change. The Common Customs Tariff of the EU applies to any goods coming from outside of Europe. Following the UK leaving the European Union, importing from the UK is no longer free of duties or taxes. However, the duty for Portugal tends to be fairly low, ranging between 5-14%. Depending on the value of your products, you may only have to pay either duties or taxes, or in some cases none at all.
What Happens if a Customer Refuses to Pay Customs or Duties on an Order?
If you decide against paying the customs/duties set out and you cancel the order, the initial shipping amount won’t be refunded and you will be charged an additional administration surcharge.
Lead Times
How Long Will It Take For My Parcel to be Dispatched?
When it comes to international orders, our team aims to dispatch within 3-5 working days.
What if this Affected Item Is Not in Stock?
If you have made a special order that we have had to request from a supplier, there may be added delays to getting you your consignment. However, this won’t usually have much of an impact on your 3-5 day dispatch time.
Why is Delivery Taking Longer Than Expected?
If you are experiencing longer waiting times, please feel free to contact us. It could be happening for a number of reasons, one of which could be because of the size of your parcel. Depending on the size, it can take anywhere between 1-4 weeks for your consignment to arrive in Portugal. However, during its journey, we will provide regular updates to ensure that you are kept in the loop with the status of your order.
Tracking and Parcel Safety
Are Customers Given a Tracking Code Upon Ordering?
Yes. Once you have checked out, we will make sure that you receive your tracking number by either text or email. You will also be sent an invoice once your order has been dispatched which will include this information.
How are Products Packaged?
We will take the utmost care with each of your orders but the packaging may differ depending on the size, weight and fragility of your product(s). As a general rule, each of our parcels is packed with heavy duty cardboard packaging with cardboard void fill and cushioning. However, if your product is more fragile, or an awkward shape, we will pack it in a bespoke wooden crate.
Bulk and Oversized Orders
What Happens if Orders are Overweight/Oversized?
When you come to checkout, the system will automatically try to calculate what’s the best shipping options for your chosen product(s). However, if it is that they happen to be oversized or overweight, you could also be charged a delivery surcharge. If it is that this applies to you, a message will appear at the checkout to notify you and a team member will be in touch to explain your options and the surcharges involved.
Returns
What is the Returns Process For International Orders?
In order to ensure that our customers in Portugal receive the easiest and most straightforward experience, our returns policy for international orders is much the same as for domestic orders. For example, your item can be returned within 28 days of delivery by courier for a full refund as long as the item is in its original packaging and you have proof of purchase. To see the full policy, please take a look at our dedicated Returns page.
Who Pays For the Return Cost of an Item?
Unless your item is faulty, or there has been an error on behalf of John Craddock Ltd, you will be expected to cover the cost of returning your goods. If we receive your return and identify that it is indeed a fault of ours, then you will be refunded the cost of your postage. An important thing to note when returning your parcel is that you can avoid any tax and duty charges. To do this, mark the consignment as ‘returned goods’, and make sure that you include all of the relevant paperwork and tracking numbers to verify that it’s a return.
Are Any Items Non-Returnable from International Locations?
When it comes to non-returnable items, it’s worth noting that engines and gearboxes cannot be returned and lose their warranty once they are shipped overseas. The other time that an item may be non-returnable is if it was a special order and we wouldn’t be able to send it back to the supplier.
Should Customers Insure Items Upon Returning Them?
We strongly advise that you get insurance on your items during their return journey as if they end up getting damaged or lost in transit, it will be expected that you cover the costs.
